5 reasons to volunteer for Day of Service
Join Xcel Energy on September 7 and make a positive impact in our communities
Day of Service is Xcel Energy’s single-largest volunteer effort. Last year, more than 4,600 employees and customers came together to give back to the communities we serve. Volunteers partnered with more than 110 nonprofit organizations and logged nearly 14,000 hours.
This year, Day of Service is Saturday, Sept. 7 from 8 – 11 a.m. local time, and it will be the biggest one yet. For several years, Colorado has invited customers and community members to join its volunteer efforts and this year, Minnesota is doing the same.
Choose from more than 130 projects in cities across Colorado, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin and make a positive impact in your community.
Here are just a few reasons why you should join Day of Service.
1. Better Your Community
Last year, the total economic impact of Day of Service was more than $351,000. Volunteers packed more than 160,000 meals for Colorado families, planted more than 300 trees in parklands in the Upper Midwest, planted four acres of land in Minnesota with pollinator-friendly grasses and flowers, assembled more than 3,000 hygiene kits for veterans in Denver, and so much more. The time, energy and talent volunteers put into Day of Service makes a difference for years to come.
2. Connect with Local Nonprofits
Day of Service makes a lasting impact on participating nonprofits. Not only does it introduce volunteers to organizations’ missions, but it also encourages regular volunteerism. Following Day of Service, many participants continue to volunteer for these organizations throughout the year.
3. Meet New People
Day of Service is an excellent opportunity to meet new people, connect with community members who share your values, and network with other professionals. With thousands of volunteers and hundreds of nonprofits, participants are sure to foster new relationships and grow old ones.
4. Spend Time with Family and Friends
Day of Service, which offers several kid-friendly projects, has become a popular event for families. Volunteering is a fun and inexpensive way to spend more time with your loved ones. It also instills the importance of giving back and helps children develop skills and discover talents.
5. Have Fun
Volunteering isn’t just about giving back to your communities. It’s also fun and gives you a sense of pride and fulfillment. At Day of Service, volunteers have opportunities to landscape parks and clean up trails, paint buildings, knit baby blankets, and more.
In just three hours, you can truly make a difference in your community. There are projects for all ages, skills and abilities, so invite your family and friends and let’s make September 7 a morning to remember!
