Calling all volunteers! Xcel Energy heads into 14th annual Day of Service

Customers can join employees in taking action and giving back to communities

Xcel Energy invites customers to join employees and their friends and families on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14 for its 14th annual Day of Service, an opportunity to give back to their communities.

Day of Service was created as a tribute to the victims, survivors and first responders of 9/11, as well as all those who work to keep communities and the country safe. The annual volunteer event provides an opportunity for Xcel Energy and members of the community to come together and contribute to projects that benefit local nonprofits.

Xcel Energy’s Day of Service has been an annual tradition since 2010 and is the company’s largest volunteer effort. Last year, nearly 2,500 employees, contractors, friends, family, retirees and customers across the eight states Xcel Energy serves contributed 7,200 hours of volunteer work — including packing 175,000 meals. Their efforts benefited over 100 nonprofits and generated an economic impact of $240,000.

Nonprofits play an important role in our communities, from feeding those in need to enriching our relationship with nature,” said Ryan Long, president of Xcel Energy–Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. “Volunteering with them is one way we step beyond our daily commitment of delivering safe and reliable energy to help out our neighbors in other ways and care for our environment. Please, come join us people of all ages, skill levels and abilities can get involved.

Volunteers in Minnesota, Colorado and Wisconsin can sign up now for one of 75+ nonprofit projects, including both indoor and outdoor projects, from distributing fresh produce to community members and painting tiny homes to cleaning up natural spaces and packing school supplies for children
