Five surprising ways to save with Xcel Energy rebates

From window shades to leaf blowers, find deals to boost your energy savings

New Year’s resolutions abound this time of year, from health and fitness goals to personal milestones. While you’re setting resolutions, you might also consider bolstering your energy efficiency efforts with Xcel Energy rebates.

Whether you’re aiming to make outdoor tasks more efficient or creating a more comfortable home, our rebates can help kick off your new year with unique energy and bill saving opportunities.

1. Brighten your home
Switching to energy-efficient lighting reduces your energy usage and may lower your utility bills. We offer rebates for LED light bulbs, night lights and even decorative string lights in our online store or visit the LED Discount Tool to locate lighting deals near you. Bulbs are available for as low as $1.79 and can last up to 13 years based on an average usage of three hours daily.

Available in: All Xcel Energy service territories.

2. Go electric with outdoor equipment
Traditional gas-powered outdoor equipment is often noisy, smelly and inefficient. We offer rebates on cordless outdoor electric equipment, including snow blowers, lawn mowers, trimmers, cultivators, edgers and leaf blowers. Electric models are quieter, cleaner and can be more cost-effective, allowing you to cross outdoor tasks off your to-do list, so you can get through Minnesota’s winter easier and make it to the lake faster in the summer.

Available in: Minnesota.

3. Recycle your old refrigerator
Those old refrigerators in the garage or basement don't run as efficiently as new, energy-efficient appliances. If you have an old, working refrigerator or freezer, let us haul it away and recycle it for you. We take it away, and you can get a rebate and a little extra space back in your home.

Available in: Colorado, Minnesota, New Mexico and Texas.

4. Make your home smarter and more comfortable
Cellular window shades don’t just add style to your home – they are a terrific way to improve energy efficiency. These shades provide insulation, helping to keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We offer a rebate program to make it more affordable to achieve year-round comfort with your window coverings.

Available in: Colorado.

A smart thermostat can help you save energy by adjusting your home’s temperature when you’re at work, away or asleep. Easy-to-use apps also help you manage the system remotely. Get an instant rebate of $50 on select models in our online store

Once your smart thermostat is in place, join A/C Rewards and get an annual reward of $30 for cutting back on A/C use during periods of extreme temperatures and peak demand.

A/C Rewards is available in: Colorado, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

5. Conserve water with energy-efficient showerheads
Our rebates on high-efficiency showerheads can help you reduce water consumption, which may also lower your bill by reducing the amount of natural gas – or electricity – used by your water heater, without sacrificing your shower experience. It is an easy and “clean” way to save on two bills: water and energy. Visit our online store to shop for high-efficiency showerheads for as little as $6.98.

Available in: All Xcel Energy service territories.
