Dozens of smoke alarms changed. Fire safety and savings information delivered personally by volunteers. And, potentially, homes and lives saved.

Recently, in Pueblo, CO, the spirit of community came alive as Xcel Energy employees teamed up with American Red Cross volunteers and the Pueblo Fire Department for the season’s first Sound the Alarm event. Working side by side, teams visited homes to test and install smoke alarms, share fire safety tips and help families create personalized emergency preparedness plans. It was a powerful example of neighbors helping neighbors – and a meaningful step toward building wildfire resilience.

As wildfire risk continues to grow across Colorado, so does the need for proactive community engagement and preparedness. That’s why Xcel Energy has entered a strategic partnership with the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming to help residents prepare for and respond to wildfire emergencies.

As part of this partnership, Xcel Energy is proud to serve as the Presenting Sponsor for the Red Cross’ Home Fire Campaigns and Sound the Alarm events across Colorado. These initiatives will directly engage residents statewide, offering critical wildfire prevention strategies and educating the public on how to respond to a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event. Together, Xcel Energy representatives and Red Cross volunteers will deliver wildfire preparedness guidance, home safety information and support families in developing emergency plans tailored to their unique needs.

This partnership reflects a forward-thinking approach to community resilience. By creating more opportunities for residents to access safety information, prepare for potential outages and build personalized emergency plans, we’re meeting people where they are – and investing in the safety and well-being of the communities we serve before disaster strikes. We look forward to continuing this important work and connecting with more communities across the state in the months to come.
