While Colorado’s professional football, basketball and hockey teams were already in full swing this winter, a new squad was preparing for a bright future in the state.
The Denver Summit FC will kick off its inaugural season March 14 as Colorado’s first professional women’s soccer team. We are proud to announce that Xcel Energy is an official partner of the latest addition to the National Women’s Soccer League roster.
At the heart of this alliance is a shared commitment to growth and community – a value reflected in the team’s name, which mirrors Colorado’s iconic mountain landscape and their determination to summit new horizons on and off the field.
“Xcel Energy is a trusted partner across Colorado and a company that shares our commitment to community impact and long-term investment,” said Jen Millet, President of Denver Summit FC. “As we continue to build Denver Summit FC from the ground up, it is important to align with partners who are focused on reliability, sustainability and supporting the communities we serve. We are proud to welcome Xcel Energy as our Official Energy Partner.”
At Xcel Energy, we’ve long maintained that our work is about more than energy. It’s about bringing light, prosperity and strength to the areas we’re proud to serve – and uplifting the events and teams our customers love most. This partnership will play a key role in our efforts to power communities, invest locally and support the continued growth of women’s professional sports in Colorado.
“Xcel Energy is proud to partner with Denver Summit FC at such an exciting moment for the club and for women’s sports in Colorado,” said Hollie Velasquez Horvath, regional vice president of state affairs and community relations at Xcel Energy - Colorado. “We believe in the power of sports to bring people together, strengthen communities and inspire future generations. This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting local organizations and investing in the places we serve.”
As we prepare to cheer on the Denver Summit, our partnership is just beginning. From assisting with the construction of their future all-electric stadium to highlighting the critical role of first responders with in-game elements, we’re excited to join them in taking Colorado’s soccer future to new heights.
