Preventing wildfires in our communities isn’t solely the responsibility of the local fire department. It’s a team effort involving government agencies, utilities, non-profit organizations, residents and the media.
That's why Rocky Mountain PBS (RMPBS) and Xcel Energy are launching a comprehensive wildfire safety and preparedness campaign. The new partnership is designed to reach Coloradans in all corners of the state through RMPBS’ robust, multi-channel public media network.
The campaign is centered on the increasing risk of wildfire in the region, what the public can do about it, and how a wide range of organizations are coordinating to protect Colorado’s communities. The partnership includes in-person and virtual events, online and broadcast segments, and educational materials designed for families and children.
The partnership also features a “Partners in Prevention” website that will serve as an expansive resource hub on wildfire safety for Coloradans. The site will help ensure that even the hardest-to-reach communities receive vital information.
“Public outreach is a core principle of our wildfire mitigation strategy,” said Robert Kenney, president of Xcel Energy – Colorado. “Helping our customers and the many emergency responders across the state be informed and prepared can save lives and property. We’re working to prevent catastrophic wildfires – and everyone plays a role in safety and preparedness.”
The partnership underscores Xcel Energy and Rocky Mountain PBS’ unwavering commitment to promoting safety and supporting our communities.
“At Rocky Mountain PBS, our mission is to serve the public good by providing trusted, relevant information that helps Coloradans navigate critical issues.” said Amanda Mountain, President and CEO of Rocky Mountain Public Media. “Through Partners in Prevention, we’re working with Xcel Energy and safety-focused partners across the state to amplify lifesaving information—especially to those communities that are hardest to reach.”
