We would like to thank our Colorado customers for your patience and support as we took steps to protect the safety of our communities and decrease the risk of wildfire over the past few days. We know being without power is disruptive and can be frustrating, so we take the decision to implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) very seriously, and we only take that step in the most extreme situations.
Beyond the PSPS events, hurricane-force winds in some areas damaged power poles and other infrastructure, leading to additional power outages. Before electric service can be restored following a PSPS, our crews must inspect each stretch of power line and repair damage, which can take time. We would like to thank our dedicated field crews who worked in difficult weather conditions to get the lights back on once it was safe to do so, sometimes in remote locations with challenging terrain.
Our customers played a critical role in our work to restore power as quickly as possible. You called us with reports of downed lines and power outages, which helped us respond to outages as efficiently as possible. And many of you greeted our lineworkers with kindness and support so that they could get their work done safely as quickly as possible. We are grateful for your partnership.
We are also grateful for the partnerships with the Red Cross, local and state agencies including the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, community leaders and more, who all worked together to respond to community needs during the events.
Public Safety Power Shutoffs are a vital tool for protecting the communities we serve during the periods of highest wildfire risk, and we are committed to continuing to improve how we implement them, ensuring that our communications to you are as accurate and timely as possible. We know you rely on us to provide an essential service, and we are focused on always improving the service we deliver.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we worked to keep our communities safe.
Sincerely,
Xcel Energy
